DEFINITION:
Chronic truancy refers to student self-imposed absences from school or classes in violation of school rules. |
PREVENTION:
Identify at-risk students; Identify conditions that keep students from attending classes or school; Educate students early in school setting as to the importance of school and class attendance; Educate parents as to the importance of regular school and class attendance. |
CRISIS:
Identify truancy criteria for crisis situations; Notify parents of student attendance status; Identify causative factors and patterns; Report chronic truancies to appropriate officials. |
INTERVENTION:
Consult, counsel with students, parents, and teachers; Provide support services; Alleviate causative factors. |
