SPECIAL EDUCATION HANDICAPPING CONDITIONS                    Code:  EDUCATION - 109
DEFINITION:
Programs/services those who qualify under federal guidelines as handicapped.  Includes mentally impaired , emotionally impaired, hearing impaired, visually impaired, physically impaired, speech/language impaired, learning disabled, pre-primary impaired, multiply impaired and autistic. 
PREVENTION:
Special Education staff are available for observation and consultation.  Building teams focus on strategies to assist students who are having difficulty with persistent low-achievement, maladjustment and high risk behavior. 
CRISIS:
If attending school, refer to Child Study Teams for discussion and possible intervention and/or referral.  Prior to school age, call Wayne RESA?s Special Education and Early Intervention Services (SEEIS) at (734) 334-1300
INTERVENTION:
through Individualized Educational Planning (IEP) for Qualifying students, the district offers a range of classroom programs and ancillary services that are designed to meet the student's special educational and social-emotional needs.
