STUDENTS FORM DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY SYSTEMS         Code:  MENTAL HEALTH - 305 
DEFINITION:
The dysfunctional family is one where irrational roles and expectations are assigned to children which interfere with personal and educational opportunities are development.
PREVENTION:
Provide substance abuse and awareness programs; Provide parenting skills workshops; Provide communication skills workshops; Provide or refer for family counseling; Provide community awareness information.
CRISIS:
Notify appropriate authorities where sexual and physical abuse is suspected; Consult and refer for family counseling as appropriate; Counsel and support student within the school to maintain academic progress; Arrange for and provide prompt personal and educational assessments when indicated.
INTERVENTION:
Provide information why and how to intervene in dysfunctional family systems; Respect members of dysfunctional family systems acknowledging that they are doing the best they know how at this moment and can improve parenting with support; Refer to appropriate educational programs within the school or community.
