DEFINITION: A dropout is a student who has been enrolled in a regular K-12 school program but leaves for any reason other that death., before graduation or completing a program of study and who does not re-enroll in another K-12 school program. |

PREVENTION: Identify potential at-risk students for school dropout as early as possible; preschool, elementary, etc; Assess reasons and contributing factors for potential dropout; Develop appropriate alternative educational plan; Involve family and other support systems to encourage regular school attendance; Encourage motivational and incentive programs to promote school completion; Provide a broad-based curriculum to meet the needs and interests of all students(i.e., food, art, music); Arrange for support/resources for families of "at-risk" students, Ensure that each student has an educational and employability plan that is periodically modified. |

CRISIS: Evaluate and assess reasons that at-risk student is considering for dropping out of school; Provide resources for intervention or alternative educational programs; provide linkages between student, school and community agencies. |

INTERVENTION: Identify adjustment or learning problems early and provide the necessary intervention support services; Implement preschool elementary programs for siblings or school students experiencing significant academic or behavioral difficulties; Implement individual learning plans to provide individualized remedial learning experiences for students. |
