 COMMUNICABLE DISEASE                                                                                                                    Code:  HEALTH-205
 DEFINITION:
Condition of ill health which may be transmitted from person to person; legal description of certain symptoms, physical signs.
 PREVENTION:
Provide education programs which reinforce good health habits of students and school personnel; Provide a program for early detection and resolution of communicable disease conditions; Enforce school guideline requirement of adequate immunization levels of all students.  Assist in the development of school district policy on communicable disease, using resources for the Michigan Department of Public Health.
 CRISIS:
Identify and exclude students with communicable disease and refer to appropriate sources for treatment; Screen student population, if appropriate; Inform parent and appropriate agency of communicable disease; Consult with Department of Health.
 INTERVENTION:
Advise student of ramifications of the communicable disease; Advise classroom teacher of condition and alert them to signs and symptoms for observation of other students; Notify parents of the exposed population, if appropriate and list signs and symptoms; Enforce guidelines as to when a student may return to school.
