 CHILD ABUSE & NEGLECT, SEXUAL ABUSE & DOMESTIC VIOLENCE                                                      Code:  HEALTH-202            
DEFINITION:
As defined by Act 238 of the Public Acts of 1975, as amended, being Sections 722.621 - 722.636 of the Michigan Compiled Laws. 
 PREVENTION:
Provide local board of education approved family life education program; Arrange for family support group sessions; Promote the alleviation of stress factors in the school environment; Identify and provide services to "at-risk" students; Provide regular and specific in-service training for all building staff in child abuse and neglect situations; Engage student support services team for prevention strategies.
 CRISIS:
Report abuse and neglect cases to Protective Services, local law enforcement officers and school administrator; Provide emotional or physical support to students; Act as the school-home liaison as requested and appropriate; Provide emotional and informational support to school staff involved in reporting abuse and neglect situations; Arrange for transportation to medical facility.
 INTERVENTION:
Follow-up with Protective Services to local police officers; Act as consultants to building staff in appropriate response to abused and neglected children in their classrooms and in the school; Coordinate services between child, family, school, child protection  agency, law enforcement, therapist, etc.
