ADOLESCENT PREGNANCY & PARENTING                                                                                                     Code:  HEALTH-200
 DEFINITION:
Any school-age pregnancy female or parenting female or male student.
 PREVENTION:
Assist in the development of K-12 primary prevention programs on self-concept, self-esteem and decision making skills and delay of gratifications; Develop and deliver staff in-service on pregnancy and parenting issues and the impact of unintended pregnancies on the students, their infants, and their families; Provide and promote local school board approved family life education, including family planning programs; Implement MDE parenting curriculum; Provide information to students, parents, community groups and educational staff regarding adolescent growth and development; Counsel students to enhance self-perception and self-efficacy.
 CRISIS:
when pregnancy or physical or emotional health of a pregnant student is threatened; Identify emergency situation as being emotional or physical; Provide informa6tion on health and medical emergency resources; Provide liaison and support between student and parents; Inform appropriate school officials or situation and response.
 INTERVENTION:
Assist school-age parent programs staff in developing and providing educational and counseling programs for pregnant and parenting students.  Referral to appropriate educational programs.
